YOUR HEALTH STORY MATTERS

How sharing your story can help others looking for hope

“I just want people to know how much I love this site. It meant so much to me to read the stories!!!!”

“These communities have saved me. Seriously.”

“Hello, I am new here and so happy to know there is somewhere I can go that people will understand…”

These are just a few examples of the kind of messages Inspire receives from our members on a daily basis. Across communities and conditions, people on Inspire are finding hope, inspiration, and information in the stories that you share.

When it comes to our health, stories can be particularly powerful. Personal health stories can teach us about treatments and symptoms and help us feel more connected. In many cases, a person living with a health condition may not know anyone with the same condition. That can leave them feeling isolated and alone. But through the stories shared on Inspire, you can be instantly connected to others who share your experiences. In addition, the option to share anonymously on Inspire may be more comfortable for those who are shy or not yet ready to go public with the personal details of their health.

The benefits of sharing our stories extend to storytellers, as well. Research shows that sharing even brief personal accounts can have positive impacts on psychological and physical health for months after sharing.

If you’ve been wanting to share your story, but haven’t been sure how to start, use these tips to start a discussion in your own Inspire health community. You may be surprised by the lives you impact along the way.

That is all thanks to members like you, who offer their stories to the world. We’re so grateful to you and all that you do for the community. Share your story in an Inspire community today.
