Inspire is now partnered with the Autoimmune Association

Autoimmune diseases occur as a result of the body’s immune system attacking its own organs, tissues, and cells. Although the cause of many autoimmune diseases remains unknown, more than 24 million people in the U.S. are impacted by an autoimmune disease. Furthermore, approximately 80% of all patients diagnosed with autoimmune diseases are women. Finally, 5-10% of Americans have more than one autoimmune disease.
There are over 100 chronic conditions that are considered autoimmune diseases. These include:
- Type 1 diabetes
- Lupus
- Inflammatory bowel disease
- Psoriasis
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Celiac disease
- Endometriosis
- Myasthenia gravis
- Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE)
- Fibromyalgia
- Scleroderma
- And dozens more
Some autoimmune diseases are extremely common. For example, psoriasis affects as many as 125 million people worldwide. In other cases, autoimmune diseases can be rare and difficult to diagnose, as in the case of pediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorders associated with streptococcus infections (PANDAS).
The Autoimmune Association works together with disease-specific patient advocacy and non-profit organizations to help advance research and awareness of all autoimmune diseases. The Autoimmune Association’s mission is to improve the lives of those impacted by autoimmune disease.
The partnership between the Autoimmune Association and Inspire, announced during Autoimmune Awareness Month, which takes place in March, will ensure that people living with autoimmune disease can be properly diagnosed, treated, supported, and understood at every point in their health journey.
