HEART MONTH
Join WomenHeart in Spreading Awareness about the Risk of Heart Disease
While heart disease is the leading cause of death in women, less than half of women in the U.S. are aware of that risk. Fortunately, 80% of heart disease is preventable.
February is American Heart Month. Act now to take control of your heart health. In addition to eating healthy and exercising regularly, women should see a health care provider to learn their numbers: their blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar. If any of those are out of the healthy range, there are ways to manage them in an effort to prevent heart disease.

To learn more about women and heart disease or to find peer support if you are a woman experiencing a new diagnosis or recent heart event, visit womenheart.org. And throughout Heart Month, follow WomenHeart on Facebook, Instagram and Linked In to engage in #29DaysofHeart, a campaign that lifts up the voices and stories of Black women with heart disease as we honor Black History Month along with Heart Month.
BLACK HISTORY MONTH
February is Black History Month

This year’s Black History Month theme is “Black Health and Wellness,” a chance to celebrate the many contributions of Black leaders in medicine. As we reflect on this historic legacy, we also recognize that several key health concerns continue to affect Black communities disproportionately.
According to the Office of Minority Health, African Americans are:
- 30 percent more likely to die from heart disease than non-Hispanic whites
- 40 percent more likely to have high blood pressure and are less likely than non-Hispanic whites to have their blood pressure under control
